The School of Philosophy at Guizhou University has a long history and a complete talent training system. Established in May 2016, it originated from the Philosophy Department of Guizhou University founded in 1972, boasting a history of 50 years. The School currently offers undergraduate programs in philosophy, as well as master's and doctoral degree programs in philosophy, making it one of the most comprehensive institutions for philosophy education among universities in Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, and Hainan provinces. It stands as a key institution for cultivating philosophy talents in the southwestern region of China. Currently, there are over 220 undergraduate students, over 160 master's students, and over 50 doctoral students enrolled at the School of Philosophy.

 

The faculty of the School of Philosophy are academically accomplished and possess rich teaching experience. With 38 full-time faculty members, including 14 professors and 16 associate professors, the school has garnered significant recognition. Among them, 6 teachers have been selected for National talent projects, 2 enjoy Special  government allowances of the State Council, and 1 project leader for a National Social Science Fund of China “Obscure and lost teachings”(冷门绝学) , 2 evaluation expert of National Social Science Fund of China, 1 provincial core expert, 2 provincial excellent experts, 3 academic leaders in philosophy and social sciences at Guizhou Province's universities, 2 distinguished teachers at ordinary colleges in Guizhou Province, 1 distinguished teacher at Guizhou University, 1 young teaching talent.

 

The school has established high-end platforms for its disciplines and majors. It was designated as the “National University Student Well-Rounded Education Base” by the Ministry of Education in 2006 and as the ‘National Innovation Experimental Zone for Humanities Well-Rounded Education” in 2009. The philosophy discipline was recognized as “provincial characteristic discipline” in 2009, “national characteristic discipline” in 2010, and became a key discipline in Guizhou Province in 2016. In 2019, the philosophy discipline was selected as a first-class discipline in Guizhou Province, and in 2021, the think tank supported by the School of Philosophy was selected as the second batch of distinctive think tanks in Guizhou Province. Additionally, the philosophy discipline was recognized as a national first-class discipline in the same year.

 

The School of Philosophy at Guizhou University has maintained high-quality talent cultivation and strong national service capabilities. Over the past half-century, the philosophy major at Guizhou University has contributed significantly to society by nurturing and supplying a plethora of talents. Among these alumni are leaders at various levels of party and government, such as Ye Xiaowen, Chen Shijun, Xin Weiguang, Sun Guoqiang, and Chen Mingming, who have held provincial and ministerial-level positions. Additionally, numerous grassroots leaders have worked in party and government sectors at the city, county, and township levels, especially within Guizhou Province. The alumni also include renowned scholars like Hao Lixin, Xu Qi, Tao Yusuo, Cai Shushan, and Yang Tongjin. Furthermore, many business elites, such as Zhao Guoquan and Zhang Xiaolong, have made significant contributions to the economic and social development of both the nation and the local regions.  In recent years, the school has been repeatedly recognized as a high-quality employer and an advanced unit in recruitment by Guizhou University, and it has been approved as a pilot college for the Three-Full Education construction.

 

As the philosophy discipline at Guizhou University enters its second half-century, it continues to thrive and contribute to the cultivation of outstanding talents for the nation in the new era, exerting even greater influence and making more significant contributions.
